what exactly is beginner guns?

Beginner Guns is a firearms training company located in Austin, TX focused on delivering a great individual or group experience for those new and intermediate to: shotgun clay shooting, handgun shooting, and personal+home self-defense principles and skills.

What are my qualifications?

I am a USCCA Certified Instructor for Concealed Carry & Home Defense. I have also been shooting guns since age 5 as it was, and still is, a huge part of my family culture.

What do we offer?

A variety of teaching and experience packages in Austin or Central Texas. We pick a location together, and I provide everything: guns, ammunition, eye and ear protection. All you need is to bring a good attitude and wear the appropriate clothing!

Hey, we’re called gun lovers for a reason. build extremely valuable skills and have a ball doing so. goes hand in hand with confidence, and incase you haven’t picked up on it, I hammer on safety because it is, and always will be, the biggest non-negotiable

“it’s like golf but with shotguns”

I provide a 12 gauge, 20 gauge and .410 gauge shotgun so every comfort level with recoil (how hard the gun “kicks” when fired) is covered

Clay Shooting, more commonly known as skeet shooting, which is one of its disciplines along with trap and sporting clays, has been around for 200 years.

I believe it is the simplest and funnest introduction to any shooting. Sporting clays is like golf, with most courses having 10-25 different stations with multiple electronic throwers on each hole that send the disk flying when you hit the button. Sporting Clays is what I offer in this package.

Must drive to Northeast Austin for the below rates. The other public sporting clays near austin is in marble falls.

Rates include 25 clays per person (ammunition included)

1 person - $55

2 people - $50 per person

3-5 people - $45 per person

6-8 people - $40 per person

Once through 25 rounds each, it is $45 per extra 25 clays and rounds total (not per person)

Handgun lessons for beginner and intermediate shooters

Beginners - never shot before? This is for you.

Curriculum, at a pace comfortable for you:

  • 4 safety rules

  • Grip, stance, aim, loading and unloading fake plastic rounds

  • Dry fire (pull trigger with fake round loaded), then live fire

Dry fire and Live fire progression - Crawl, Walk, Run

  • Crawl - we load snap caps (fake plastic rounds) and do dry fire

  • Walk - we then shoot nearly the smallest and quietest live firearm round in existence, the .22 LR

  • Run - We jump up to the .380 ACP, a popular conceal carry choice, and the 9mm Luger, the most popular handgun ammunition in the world

Intermediate - You have shot before and are comfortable being in the presence of guns

The curriculum for intermediate varies based on your implementation of safety, and your comfort level. if you handle the gun well in every aspect of safety, time will be spent refining your mechanics to shoot better. if i see safety issues, we will scale back to correct those.

The end goal, no matter your skill and comfort level, and how we spend your time, is to give you more knowledge and confidence in firearm ownership, selection and shooting.

Rates below are you driving to an indoor range in South Austin with my guns and 50 rounds of ammunition provided per person

Beginner Lesson - Must Use My Guns and Ammunition

1 person for 1 hour - $70 total

2 people for 1.5 hours - $55 each

3 people for 1.5 hours - $50 each

Intermediate Lesson - Can Use Your Guns/Ammo or Mine

To use my guns & ammo, same prices as above. To use yours:

1 person for 1 hour - $50

2 people for 1 hour - $35 each

3 people for 1 hour - $30 each

Prefer another location or shooting outdoors instead? Want to get a larger group of your friends together who have all shot with me? Please note in your inquiry and i will provide different locations and range types with their pricing.

Intro to self-defense

There are a tremendous amount of factors when it comes to personal and home self-defense. A very long list well before a gun ever enters the conversation.

It is then a whole different scope of consideration when you take the step of owning a gun, and even steeper if you decide to take on the personal responsibility of carrying a firearm on you outside of the home.

If you want to learn more, let’s schedule range time to discuss that scope, and practice using a firearm for these situations.

We cover:

  • Developing a personal and home protection plan

    • Tips for assessing your home for physical and visible weak points

    • Creating an established communication plan and stronghold location for your family (or you if you live alone) if someone invades the premises

  • Scanning and analysis of potential threats when out in public

  • Every avenue to consider and pursue (there are many) before considering pulling out your firearm

Then we practice the fundamentals of self defense shooting:

  • Rapid rate of fire simulating a self defense scenario

  • Shooting from a covered or concealed area

  • Stress induced shooting (elevated heart rate through exercise)

Statistically, self-defense shootings are normally a very close encounter (< 7 yards) with multiple rounds fired consecutively

Locations with a tactical bay are required for this type of shooting. proximal to austin there are public ranges are in Manor, Marble Falls and Lockhart, TX.
